WHY IT WORKS

It probably sounds a bit Zen to do something without trying. There is a reason, however, that such concepts are oftentimes part of very ancient and wise traditions. The idea is that, by not expending the energy on the effort, you’re able to spend the energy on actually performing the task. Where learning French is concerned, you’ll be glad to know that this means learning the language without boring audio programs that contain thousands of phrases repeated over and over again.

Are you learning French? Or are you just enjoying a nice story?

Good stories can help you to learn French fast. Part of the reason behind that is the fact that you’ll be doing more mentally than trying to translate words. You’ll be following dramatic action, identifying with characters and, in the case of musical productions, you’ll be learning songs, as well. All of this helps engage your whole brain.

As you listen to the music, especially if it happens to be a simple song, you’ll find that there are some phrases repeated over and over. You’ll also find that this is much more pleasant when it’s in the context of a song rather than just a recording of someone repeating themselves constantly. The French language can be a great deal of fun to sing and learning how to sing the songs is actually a good way to learn about pronunciation. Before you start speaking, however, remember that you’ll have to spend a lot of time listening. Most language programs start students speaking way too soon, and they develop bad habits.

One of the reasons its easier to learn at home than it is to learn in French classroom situations is that you’re not pressured. As you listen to the story of “Il Fait Beau,” you’ll find that you are suddenly not feeling pressured to learn the language. You’ll be creating a mental image of what’s going on instead of just listening to the words of what the characters are saying.

When your entire brain is engaged, the language becomes a holistic experience. Instead of just memorizing words, you’re creating images brought about by the music or story, understanding what those words mean and coming to understand how many different meanings a word can have emotionally, even if it always means the same thing literally. The French language is famously complex and does not lend itself well to memorization and rote learning. However, “Il Fait Beau” has been called by experts as a fascinating, exciting way to learn.

What this isn’t!

  • This is not a series of disconnected boring French phrases.
  • It does not contain meaningless lists of vocabulary words.
  • It is not overpowered by English translation, to interfere with the enjoyment of listening
to and learning the beautiful sounds of the French language.
  • This isn’t songs that are so complicated , you’re not able to understand them.

What you will hear

In the first chapter, you’ll hear the story of Benoit, a successful Parisian Rock Violinist. He loves his life, his surprisingly intelligent dog, Andre, and his tiny apartment overlooking the park.

You’ll meet Marie-Anne, a young, beautiful heiress whose only passion is money and power. But the large diamond she wears is nearly her downfall. A greedy taxi driver attacks her and it is only through the quick response of Benoit and Andre that she is saved.

Benoit is strangely attracted to the mysterious woman. For the first time, Marie-Anne finds herself with someone who makes her feel relaxed and happy. All is well, until someone calls her name, and Benoit learns her identify. He leaves abruptly. She calls his name. Why? The answer is revealed in the next chapters.

But after ever cliffhanger, you will hear simple questions which reinforce the French you have acquired from
listening to the story. “I was amazed, after only thirty minutes, at what I was able to understand,” wrote one
learner. (see testimonials)
